Herein lies the tales of the race. The place to read about
real GP Racing and the stories that come from such things! There's much
more to racing than just competing on the track. Find out what it takes
to race a TZ250 or any GP 2-stroke racebike.
Dale Whelan Pike's Peak: August 2001 For the first time in a long time I'm headed north of DeerValley
Rd. out of Phoenix. At Black Canyon City I do an inventory of
the shit I need for the race and can't account for my helmet!
I had gone to the bank on the streetbike earlier, did I put the
helmet back in the van? (I once went to Willow Springs without
a helmet.) Luckily the helmet is in the van, so I'm on the road
again. Go to Story
Firebird East: April 2002 On the last turn of the last
lap I go inside tight and try not to park too much. He's awake
and pulls up on my right, but his bike's power is no match for
the TZ. I think of waving to him. Nah, that wouldn't be nice.
I vaporize his hopes instead. Go to Story
Las Vegas Classic Course:
May 2002 Dale
closes on the battle for 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th place. The
battle ahead has broken into 2 groups. Within 2 laps Dale takes
7th position entering turn three. 6th and 5th place bikes are
dead ahead and Dale closes up big entering turn 5. Reeling them
in nicely, Dale is showing a little motor on the straight. It
appears we may have a little something for these guys in turn
6. Go to Story
Mike Lachance Firebird East: May 26, 2002 I need to wake the bike up and
use it where it works. Stop riding it like a golf cart. It doesn't
make squat for power under 6 grand so don't keep it there. Turn
10 is the worst turn. The line seems elusive and the revs just
die completely coming out of it onto the back straight. When i
get home i'll have to change out first gear to the short gear.
Work with it. Lets get this thing screaming on the straights... Go to Story
California Speedway: July 13, 2002 Once again the big guy with
the black leathers was out slowing us down. A great lap would
be in the making.. then you come up on him and play detective
for half a lap. "Hmmmm.... what the hell is he doing? How
do I get around him?" To make matters worse, this session
ended after only 5 laps due to another crash and a Red Flag. This
time someone screwed up in the 10-11 chicane, shooting grass,
dirt and hay onto the track. Makes one realize how much work some
riders are going through out there. Or just how bad they are.
It's not for me to say... Go to Story
Scott Jackson Firebird East: March 2002 I got my usual bad start, I REALLY
need to work on those. It must be nice to start out up front and
not have to work through traffic. (I do like going around people)
It took 8 laps to get around everyone, except Sean Alexander... Story in Preparation
